Sebring Families Celebrate Community at NU-HOPE’s Old-Fashioned Harvest Festival

The spirit of simpler times filled the air at NU-HOPE Elder Care Services’ Old-Fashioned Harvest Festival on October 5th, 2024. About two dozen families braved the hot and sunny weather to enjoy a day of fun, laughter, and community at the Sebring Thrift Store.

The event, a throwback to traditional family festivals, did not disappoint. Kids and parents alike flocked to the “Paint Your Own Pumpkin” booth, where creativity took center stage. Brightly colored pumpkins, adorned with everything from polka dots to spooky faces, were proudly painted by artists young and old.

“The pumpkins were so much fun to paint,” said Sarah Martinez, who attended with her two children. “The kids loved taking their creations home, and knowing it supports local seniors made it even better.”

Games like Corn Hole, Ring Toss, and The Lucky Duck Pond were a big hit, with many children returning again and again to conquer the challenges. Laughs and cheers could be heard throughout the day as kids celebrated their wins and enjoyed the friendly competition.

The snow cones and hot dogs were a refreshing treat, especially on such a warm day. Families enjoyed cooling off under the shade while sipping on their icy delights. “The snow cones were the perfect way to beat the heat,” shared event attendee Mark Johnson.

Independent vendors, including a balloon artist and face painter, added a touch of magic to the day, and the “Kids Toy Store” was a treasure trove for little ones, offering gently used toys at prices parents couldn’t resist.

“The festival was relaxed, fun, and full of community spirit,” said Debbie Slade, NU-HOPE’s Executive Director. “We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to support us and help make a difference for seniors in Highlands County.”

The Harvest Festival proved to be more than just a fun day out; it was a heartwarming reminder of the joy found in community connection. Attendees left with full hearts, creative pumpkins, and cherished memories—eagerly awaiting next year’s celebration.
